About Us

Who Are We?

The Saudi Association for Information Systems (SaudiAIS) is a chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) serving the IS community in Saudi Arabia, which is located in Region 2 (Europe/Middle East/Africa). The SaudiAIS aims to promote the exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge among scholars and professionals interested in said area of research engaged in the development, management, and use of information systems and technology in Saudi Arabia.

Our Story

On 24 Feb 2016, Saudi Association for Information Systems (SaudiAIS ) was established as a WhatsApp group titled: “IS Research Group” by Mazen Shawosh and Tawfiq Alashoor, who were Ph.D. students then. The group started with ten members who also were Ph.D. and master’s students. In general, the goal was to support Saudi Ph.D. students and exchange knowledge about academia and research. During the early days of COVID-19, we decided to take advantage of the movement to online work and start doing virtual meetings, seminars, and panel discussions as our activities Later, in July 2020, the SaudiAIS was officially launched and initiated by Mazen Shawosh and Mona Alyami. At the official launch, a Twitter account,a YouTube account, an official communication email, and the SaudiAIS’s logo were designed and created. Saudi identity is represented by the presence of the palm tree, a symbol of giving, and the logo integrates the colors of Vision 2030 into the AIS’s Logo. Our activities were supported and attended by the WhatsApp group’s members, which now contains approximately 240 members from public and private Saudi universities, as well as from higher education institutes, ministries and authorities in Saudi Arabia. Hence, there was an urgent need in relying the SaudiAIS as an official chapter under the AIS.
